As the community wide vaccination program in Prince Rupert hits its stride, Data from the BC CDC reinforces just why such a measure was required at this point in time.
With the city retaining its placement atop the weekly review of positive cases counts of COVID-19 for Northwestern British Columbia for the fifth consecutive week.
From today's data, the numbers remain worrisome with the continued increase week by week, as the Prince Rupert area continues to outpace all of the communities of the region by a rather stark volume.
Prince Rupert's totals for the week of March 7-13 are listed at 117 reported positive cases of the coronavirus.
An increase of 11 from the week before and an indication as to why the decision to embark on the large scale community wide vaccination program was put in place
While the Prince Rupert results remain stubbornly hight, some positive notes from the last week can be found in many communities where the case count has dropped, including the Terrace area which this week recorded only 23 new cases.
Across the remainder of the Northwest, the cases reported from March 7 to 13 were as follows.

Upper Skeena -- 17
Kitimat -- 11
Haida Gwaii -- 9
Bella Coola Valley -- 8
Nisga'a Region -- 4
Nechako -- 4
Burns Lake -- 2
Smithers -- 2
The Central Coast and Snow Country-Stikine-Telegraph Creek areas both once again reported no cases this week from the data review.
