MP's Correspondence to new Fisheries Minister highlights urgent crisis facing BC's wild salmon, concerns over derelict vessels in Port Edward

Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP Taylor Bachrach has sent off a welcome to your work letter to the new Fisheries, Oceans and Canadian Coast Guard Minister Joyce  Murray, the correspondence making note of the crisis in the fishery of the region and noting of recent closures which impacted on local fishermen.

The letter sent out on Monday, calls on the Federal government support fishermen through these challenging times, as well as to seek out a commitment towards more collaboration between Federal and Provincial agencies towards protection and rebuilding of Steelhead stocks in the northwest.

Mr. Bachrach also takes advantage of the opportunity to once again reinforce the need for action on the derelict vessels of the Port Edward area, noting of the plan for removal of one of the two by the Prince Rupert Port Authority, but seeking a resolution to the issue of the second vessel.

In his concluding remarks, the MP seeks out a meeting with the Minister to discuss the issues further.
