The Canadian Coast Guard is looking to fill some staffing positions, with a current employment opportunity issuing a call for Indigenous or Visible Minority applicants.
With those making it through the recruitment and training streams set to take up positions to be filled in Prince Rupert, Port Hardy or Victoria.
Maintains deck equipment and machinery, shipboard cleanliness and husbandry, performs seamanship duties, carpentry work and simple repairs to engines;
The Deckhand position comes with a starting salary of $57,576 with the following some of the details as to what the position requires of the successful applicant.
Stands at watch at sea and in port, on the bridge as a lookout, or at the forecastle as a bow lookout;
Assists in loading, stowing, securing and discharging of cargo and supplies, and in delivering equipment and stores ashore;
Participates in shipboard safety drills (fire, ship abandonment, damage control, recovery of persons overboard), and assists in the testing of safety equipment and systems;
Provides all support necessary to ensure CCG meets its mandate.
