It's Earth Day today, 24 hours to consider our footprint on the planet and how we may improve the situation on the only planet we have to call home.
Towards local observations, there are two Community clean ups of note for residents of the Prince Rupert/Port Edward area to keep in mind.
Tonight, Positive Prince Rupert - Civic Pride are hosting a community Clean Up, with a 6PM gathering at the City Hall Fountain, they are hoping to see enough volunteers to tackle an area for clean up from City Hall and Safeway along both Second and Third Avenues.
The District of Port Edward is hosting their own clean up on Saturday, taking place from 9:30 AM to 2PM
As well on Saturday, the Prince Rupert Port Authority and City of Prince Rupert along with the North Coast Ecology Centre Society are hosting the Grand Opening for the Seal Cove Salt March recreation area, with a near three hour program for residents to take part in from Noon to 3PM.
To learn more about local sustainability themes follow the North Coast Ecology Centre Society from their Facebook page here, or through their website.
Another organization in the Prince Rupert area with a focus on sustainability is Ecotrust Canada, which has offices in the Ocean Centre in the city and take part in a number of local initiatives including our urban garden on Second Avenue West, follow their themes of note from Facebook and their website.
