BC Ferries to increase fees on all routes; note of additional run for Northern Route in peak season for 2023

The cost of travel on BC Ferries is edging upwards next month
as the Ferry System adds a 1.5 precent increase owing to the coast of fuel

The cost of fuel is about to take a bite out of the travel budget for those who travel with BC Ferries with the marine transportation provider announcing a range of fee increases to come as of November 1st.

In an information release from Monday, BC Ferries noted that "Sustained high fuel prices require BC Ferries to increase its current fuel surcharge by 1.5 per cent starting November 1."

The increase will impact all of the routes that BC Ferries operates, including those of the Northern service.

The fee increases are varied depending on the route and no specific amount was identified the information release of Monday for the Northern routes in and out of Prince Rupert to Port Hardy and Skidegate.

The Cost for a car a driver to or from Port Hardy in November comes to 350.35 plus the 1.5% fuel surcharge.

The Cost for a car and driver to or from Skidegate in November comes to $16.45 plus the 1.5% fuel surcharge.

BC Ferries also has some news for those who use the Prince Rupert to Haida Gwaii service. 

Amnouncing earlier this month that they  will be adding an additional sailing each week during the peak season between Prince Rupert and Skidegate. 

Peak Season is the busy summer travel season, so the schedule improvements won't arrive until the summer season takes effect in 2023.

The schedule addition for the Northern route was part of a larger announcement related to Capital spending plans as part of the BC Ferries 12 year plan.
