Looking Back at 2022 Tourism Season, Tourism Prince Rupert has some notes to review in preparation for 2023

October has been post mortem month for the 2022 Tourism Season, with Both Tourism Prince Rupert and the Prince Rupert Port Authority  offering up a glimpse as to how things went in this first season post COVID.

Yesterday we noted of the findings from the PRPA related to the Cruise season, and among some of the comments from stakeholders was a note on partnerships from Tourism Prince Rupert.

We've followed up on our look from last week on local tourist themes, seeking some notes from Ceilidh Marlow, the Executive Director for Tourism Prince Rupert who offered up a few takeaways from 2022.

We are very encouraged to see such a high volume of visitors return to Prince Rupert this year, not only as it helps support our visitor economy through spending at local hotels, restaurants, and shops, but also because high visitor volumes also help us in our continued efforts to raise the profile of Prince Rupert as a world-class visitor destination for authentic, unique experiences in the Great Bear Rainforest.

As part of their review of the 2022 Cruise season, Tourism Prince Rupert collected some data  related to Customer Satisfaction from visitors to the community.

While the sample group was small compared to the volume of cruise passengers that came ashore in 2022, the results on visitor experience does provide for a starting point towards planning for 2023.

Of their survey group of 155, 78% reported their visit as Very Satisfying or Satisfying.

Learning about Local History and Culture, Walking the trails and viewing wildlife made for the top three experiences from those who took the time to take part in the survey.

Better Transportation options, Tour options and opportunities for Wildlife viewing appear to be dominant themes of what visitors would like to see more of.

Ms. Marlow also provided a glimpse to what's ahead for Tourism Prince Rupert this fall and through the winter in anticipation of the 2023 season.

Looking to the end of 2022 and into 2023, we have a number of projects we're excited to see take shape. Of course, we are looking forward to the installation of the welcome & wayfinding signage we've been developing, within the next 6-8 weeks.

We provided a look at that wayfaring signage program last week.

Tourism Prince Rupert is also set to launch a new website this fall that will include a brand new business directory to help highlight local businesses, a local events calendar, and a travel pledge asking visitors to consider their impact on our community.

Some more details on the launch are to come in the weeks ahead.

You can follow along with the latest notes from Tourism Prince Rupert through their Social Media Feed.

  1. "Between May 17th and October 3rd, 2022, 40,998 cruise passengers transited through the Port, making it the busiest cruise season in Prince Rupert in over a decade."

And we only managed to survey 155 of them?

If there was a target, I am sure that is well below it.
