5.6 earthquake recorded between Vancouver Island and Haida Gwaii early Sunday morning

Following a week of numerous minor earthquakes along the pacific fault line along Vancouver Island and Haida Gwaii, a moderate seismic event occurred early Sunday morning with a 5.6 magnitude earthquake recorded Northwest of Port McNeil on Vancouver Island. 

The initial reports from the USGS had marked the event as a 5.8 quake

The event 225 miles south of Prince Rupert occurred at 4:28 AM with a depth of 7 miles.

It was one of three seismic events noted wth a previous 4.5 mg quake and 4.3 mg event in the same area overnight.

There does not appear to have been any damage noted from the event, which largely seems to have occurred unnoticed by those on land.

Following the larger event an Information statement advised that No Tsunami was expected from the seismic activity.

Emergency Info BC advised that there were no concerns for coastal areas shortly after the first reports.

The area has been active in recent days with a swarm of 30 minor tremors recorded since September 14th.
