Over the last week, mailboxes across Prince Rupert and Port Edward have included a brown shopping bag, the annual reminder that the BC Thanksgiving Food Drive is near.
The call for assistance this year will see volunteers collecting your donations of canned and dry goods on Saturday morning, the local organizers busy in the last few weeks putting together their list. of routes and connecting drivers with them.
Collection Day Saturday puts a small army to work, from those going to door to door to collect the goods, while others sort it all out back at the central distribution area, which has in years past been the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on Prince George Street.
Last year the generosity of residents in the region delivered over 3,800 pounds of food donation for the Prince Rupert area Food Bank.
You can find out how you can lend a hand on collection day or in these days leading up to it from the BC Thanksgiving Day Food Drive social media page for Prince Rupert here.
If you forget to have your donations out by 9AM, you can also drop them off at Canada Safeway or Save On Foods.
