Marine Planning session set for Prince Rupert on Monday evening
Marine Planning will be on the agenda for a public information session in Prince Rupert next week.
As the North Coast-Skeena First Nations Stewardship Society and the Province of British Columbia host a public meeting at the North Coast Meeting and Convention Centre.
The Monday, May 12th evening session will feature and Open House from 5:30 to 6:30 and a Presentation and Question session to follow from 6:30 to 8 PM.
The Open House and Presentations are designed to provide an overview of the North Coast Draft Marine Plan, part of the consultation period that started on April 29th and continues on until June 3rd.
You can review the Draft Plan through a number of download opportunities from the MAPP website.
The full document of the plan can be found here.
With everything from the Vision Statement, Planning approach and variety of themes explored in full detail.
Among the 111 pages of review, there is an examination of the Marine Economy and the impact and opportunities for communities of the North Coast. As well as a section that explores themes of partnership across the region.
For those with a tighter time frame, the summary of their plan provides a good starting point to learn more about their project and the impact of it for the North Coast.
Key to that summary is the review of the General Management Directions, which offer a template of what they hope to achieve in such areas as Governance, Compliance, Monitoring, Marine Protection, Renewable Energy, concerns when it comes to Aquaculture, Tourism and a look at the Marine Fisheries Economy to name a few of the main points for discussion.
The Prince Rupert public session is one of two for the region, with a second session scheduled for Kitimat on Tuesday, May 13th at the Kitimat Valley Institute.
There is more background on the consultation process and how to become involved available here.
