BC Hydro workers recognized for power restoration work from February snowfall

The Haisla Nation has recognized the work of BC Hydro workers who worked tirelessly in the days following the massive snowfall of February to restore power  to the Northwest interior regions.

With close to two metres of snow and wind conditions that toppled towers and lines the winter storm left the community of Kitamaat Village without power for several days.

An emergency situation which resulted in the evacuation of many residents to nearby Kitimat, while BC Hydro workers took to the work at hand.

What Hydro workers found when they arrived was extensive damage to the distribution line that served the comity with multiple spans of wire and numerous poles brought down, requiring replacement before the power could be returned to the area.

In May, the Haisla presented a mask that was created to convey thanks of the community for the work required during the winter event. The mask was created by Haisla member Garry Wilson, he currently lives and works in the Vancouver area.

The mask will be put on display in the Hydro office in Terrace
