Highway 16 Closed east of Terrace owing to wildfire



Update:  The Road Closure notice for Highway 16 was lifted as of their latest update according to the Drive BC Website




British Columbia's tinder dry conditions and wildfires have resulted in a major road closure for the Northwest, as a local fire in the region flares up close to Highway 16.

At 3:30 this afternoon, Drive BC issued a notice to travellers advising that Highway 16 had been closed to travel in both directions 60 kilometres east of Terrace, with no estimated time provided for any reopening.



The area in question is located between Terrace and Kitwanga near the Seven Sisters.

The BC Wildfire Service listed the fire as an active engagement covering .009 hectares of the Seven Sisters Park, with the suspected cause of the fire to be human related.
