The Charles Hays Rainmakers are turning to the community to help reduce the cost of travel for the BC Soccer Provincials to be held in Vancouver later this month |
Success on the soccer pitch has propelled the Charles Hays Rainmakers towards an opportunity for Provincials, but the trek to the Lower Mainland is a costly one and the timeline to raise funds for the journey is a short one.
To help defray the cost for the students and their parents, a Community Go Fund Me Page has been launched to help raise money to send the team to the Provincial tournament.
With an estimated cost of 10,000 dollars for the travel, accommodation and other expenses, the task is a challenging one for a school the size of Charles Hays, but if the early returns are an indication the community is starting to respond to their efforts.
Created yesterday the fund has already received close to 1,400 dollars towards the goal, and with the awareness of the project, perhaps some corporate support from the community will also be heard from as the team looks to raise some funds.
The opportunity to step up and lend a hand could make for the kind of thing for corporate challenges around the city, though the deadline is a tight one with the tournament fast approaching.
Charles Hays Head Coach Simon Ruperto outlined the financial requirements to take a team to Provincials through an open letter which can be viewed from the Go Fund me page here.
In his letter, the coach notes that the team is currently working on a number of fundraising initiatives on their own to help reduce their financial cash call.
The Rainmakers won their Zones on the Charles Hays field two weeks ago, claiming victory in a three team tournament that brought Smithers and Kitimat to town. The shoot out victory in the final game delivered the first championship for the school in twenty years.
The Provincial tournament takes place in Vancouver from November 21st to the 23rd
