The Prince Rupert RCMP have provided an update on the investigation into events downtown over the Weekend. |
Released in the early evening hours of Tuesday, it provides an update on the investigation into the original RCMP response to a fight complaint in the area.
As well, the local detachment relays more background towards the investigation into the public complaint that came as a result of a physical incident between RCMP officers and members of the public on Second Avenue West.
As part of the information statement, the RCMP note that investigators continue to gather information, obtain witness statements, as well as to identify a few witness videos of the incident, recorded images of the events that run from two to eight minutes.
The RCMP outlined that the process to this point includes the review of those materials "to determine the totality of the circumstances" of the weekend.
The update also included the first comments related to the events from the Commander of the Prince Rupert Detachment, with Inspector Blake Ward offering the following statement:
"We appreciate the assistance of those that have come forward to provide additional information around the incident that occurred in the 700 block of 2nd Ave West at approximately 12:50 a.m. on Saturday November 12th. We also appreciate that concerns about the actions of police were raised with us directly on November 14, 2016, which has resulted in the launch of a public complaint investigation. The complaint investigation is progressing and we remain committed to provide the findings to the complainants moving forward."
