Four Northwest Airports and Bella Coola to benefit from funding program

Some smaller airports across the Northwest, as well as along the Central Coast will be getting some remediation work over the course of this year, part of a 5.3 million dollar funding program for 2018-19 announced by the Provincial Government last week.

Among those airports to receive a share of the funding are four found in Northwest British Columbia and one on the Central Coast.

Bella Coola will receive funding for obstacle removal and work required to achieve Phase 2 certification.

Bob Quinn Lake will be conducting brush clearing as part of their funding allotment.

Dease Lake's funding will be put toward brush cutting and the installation of washroom facilities.

Stewart airport's runway will be rehabilitated with their share of the funding.

Telegraph Creek also has runway rehabilitation, and work on GPS and lighting on the to do list.

The funding is part of the BC Air Access Program, which has committed almost 30 million dollars to 50 airports across the province over the last four years.

Previous grant recipients in years past include airports in Prince Rupert, Terrace, Smithers and Burns Lake

North Coast MLA Jennifer Rice celebrated the success for Bella Coola through a short shout out on her Facebook page.
