Blog Watching: Week ending October, 7, 2018
The era of LNG development has arrived in the Northwest making for the dominant story of the news flow of the region this past week.
And while just a few years ago all eyes were focused on the Prince Rupert area, as the NDP government moves the previous planning of the Liberals forward, it will be Kitimat that will be the first Northwest community to host a terminal development
Politics also held much of the spotlight over the last seven days, with the eight candidates for Prince Rupert City Council taking part in a community election forum at the Lester Centre on Monday.
In the week ahead, it will be the turn of the School Board candidates, with our notes on the plans for the October 11th forum at Javadotcup also making for a strong audience this week.
A pair of initiatives from Prince Rupert City council also attracted much interest through the week, with our look at the City's plan for cannabis legalization gaining a significant amount of attention, as did our review of the city's announcement that the new Off Leash Dog Park at McKay and Kootenay has been declared Open for use by the public.
However, the story which attracted the most interest through the week, brings the LNG files back into the spotlight across the Northwest, that as Kitimat's Council and residents prepare for the massive change that will come their way as the LNG Canada development moves into its construction phase.
LNG Canada approval stokes dreams for future LNG Development in Northwest, with Prince Rupert still a potential location -- Tuesday's announcement that Kitimat will now be the focus for LNG development in the Northwest, has given some hope for industry proponents that more projects in the region may now get the green light (posted October 3, 2018)

The Prince Rupert City Council Forum: Eight variations of a similar theme -- Prince Rupert residents had their first opportunity to take the measure of the eight candidates seeking our vote on October 20th, with a community form held at the Lester Centre on Monday evening. Council's cannabis planning introduced through Facebook post -- Mayor Lee Brain made use of his political social media portal this week to provide a bit of a timeline for how the City of Prince Rupert will address the upcoming issues related to the legalization of marijuana on October 17th. Prince Rupert's Taj Mah Woof opens for use on city's west side -- The City of Prince Rupert has opened the off leash dog park at McKay Street and Kootenay, with an information release noting that the project was fully funded through Prince Rupert Legacy Inc. money. (posted October 5, 2018)
