More Rural Dividend money comes to Northwest as Fraser Lake and Burns Lake find success from grant applications

The Province of British Columbia continues to roll out the funding announcements from its Rural Dividend Program, with two more communities in the Northwest finding success for their applications.

On Monday the province announced that the Fraser Lake area will receive $153,168 in support  of programs related economic development and infrastructure projects.

Burns Lake was also among the successful candidates from Monday's announcements, with the Lakes District Family enhancement Society receiving $99,947 to implement plans for the Community Food Hub Transition project.

Doug Donaldson, the Minister of Forests, Lands Natural Resources and Rural Development shared some of the good news with the residents of the area that he represents in the British Columbia Legislature.

As part of the Monday announcement,  Mr. Donaldson noted how the money that has been provided is part of a prioritization plan the provincial government has put in motion following last years wildfire season.

“We’re aware that some rural communities are facing difficulties in the aftermath of wildfire season and other challenges in the forest industry,”  ...“We’ve prioritized certain project applications to help First Nations and rural communities ensure they remain healthy and economically viable places to live and raise families.”

So far the current delivery of funding from the Rural Dividend program hasn't travelled  any further west beyond the Terrace city limits, last week we made note of three programs in the Skeena area which have received grants through the program.
