UBCM report highlights grant funding delivered across Northwest BC

Through much of the city's current boil water order period, residents of Prince Rupert have heard from many of the city's elected officials about some of the work that staff members have put in when it comes to accessing grant funding for a range of projects over the last four years.

And while City Council does make mention from time to time of the success that the city has had in its grant quests, something that the City of Prince Rupert might want to add to their website is a check list for people, in order to review the results from all of that work.

Sometimes the grants that are available fit the immediate needs of a community and sometimes they don't. Likewise at times, cities are quick to their work on the applications, while in some instances the deadlines pass by without a submission making it to the finish line in time.

Something which leaves money on the table and opportunities missed.

There is wide net to cast when it comes to grant funding, whether federal, provincial  or third party sources and one of the most popular avenues towards the grant process is through the Union of British Columbia Municipalities.

This week, the UBCM published a helpful guide to some of the grants that they have offered through their Local Government Services Program, providing a look at how communities have fared when seeking out funding, when they do apply.

Below we've put the spotlight on the grant applications from the North Coast, offering up a snapshot of what the grants were designed for and how much was provided to local governments. To expand the information box, simply click on each entry.
