Second, larger 4.7 magnitude temblor recorded west of Port Hardy at 4:34 today
Update: A third seismic event was recorded just before 5PM, a 4.3 quake in the same region, we will continue to track the ongoing movements below:
There appears to be some increased seismic activity taking place today along the Pacific fault line between Northern Vancouver Island and Haida Gwaii, with a second moderate temblor recorded just after 4:30 PM today west in the channel off the northern tip of Vancouver Island.
The 4.7 temblor marked 293 kilometres southwest of Prince Rupert followed an earlier 4.1 temblor recorded just before 3 PM.
As in the earlier quake, no damage has been reported from any population centres on Northern Vancouver Island, the quakes of today have taken place in an area that has seen frequent similarly sized seismic events in recent months.
Seismic events recorded Wednesday:
4:54 PM -- 4.3 mg
4:34 PM -- 4.8 mg
2:53 PM -- 4.1 mg
