Terrace to make pitch for Snowbirds Show in 2020
If things go well, the famed Royal Canadian Air Force aeronautical unit the Snowbirds will be returning to the Northwest sometime in 2020, with Terrace City Council throwing its support behind a move by Terrace organizers to host the RCAF squadron for a show at the Terrace Airport.
The Northwest Regional airport will be the host for the hoped for performance, and this week's Terrace council session, Steve Pereira outlined some of the program planned for a July 29th, 2020 show, providing a letter seeking the support of Terrace Council as part of the application.
It could be a few months for Terrace organizers to hear if they have snared one of the few spots on the annual calendar, but the chances of a Snowbirds appearance would appear to be quite good, as it has been twenty years since they last took to the skies over the Skeena Valley in 2000.
If successful the July 29th date, would fit in nicely with the remainder of their British Columbia tour in 2020 which is already pencilling in communities for the popular unit.
The Terrace performance would be the feature attraction of a planned Northwest Regional Airshow at the Terrace-Kitimat Airport which will include performances by the Sky Hawks Parachute Demo Team as well as a CF 18 hornet, organizers are looking to add more participants and features to the event.
The Snowbirds last performed in Prince Rupert in 2013, a day that was quite memorable as the Jets swooped across the length of Prince Rupert harbour performing much of their impressive routine for large crowds found both on the city's waterfront and Mariner's Park area, as well as other vantage points in the city.
