Exstew River recreation site will once again be closed over May Long weekend
Northwest residents looking to get out into the wilderness over the May Long weekend will have to look past the Exstew River Recreation site.
As they have for a number of years now, the Provincial Recreation Sites and Trails Branch has announced that the popular site 42 kilometres west of Terrace will remain off limits between May 15 and May 22nd, with the Exstew forestry road to be gated 500 meters north of the Highway 16 access point.
The Notice of Closure advises that the decision to ban access is in place to protect recreation and environmental resources and reduce the impact of vandalism and unauthorized camping.
The ongoing May long closure comes as a result of past incidents where those that took over the popular site left the location in need of significant remediation to bring the recreation area back to a standard for public use.
Those looking for more information related to the closure can contact Recreation Sites and Trails branch recreation officer Bryan Last via telephone: 250 638-5100, or email at: Bryan.Last@gov.bc.ca
