"On time, on Budget" ... Alta Gas hails terminal completion as first shipment of Liquid Propane Gas set to depart Ridley Island tomorrow

Ridley Terminal will be the focus for Canada's energy and shipping industry tomorrow as the first Liquid Propane Terminal on the North Coast officially ships its first transit of Gas from the Ridley Island Propane Export Terminal.

We made note of the pending arrival of the vessel Sumire Gas earlier this month  as the Ridley facility began to receive the first of what will be a regular schedule of propane gas arrivals, with the product set for storage in the giant tank in place on the Ridley Island site.

And as the listings of the Port of Prince Rupert indicate, the Sumire Gas tied up at RIPET on May 13th, with its return journey to Asia set to begin at 10AM on Tuesday.

The Grand opening of the Ridley terminal was noted in early May by AltaGas Chair Randy Crawford, who hosted a conference call update for investors and business reporters; a portion of which included some notes on the opening of the Prince Rupert facility.

"This is an important and historic milestone for AltaGas, our project partners, western Canadian natural gas producers and our customers in Asia. RIPET has come online at a crucial time for the Canadian energy industry, providing domestic natural gas producers with much-needed access to tidewater and more attractive global pricing," -- Randy Crawford, President and CEO AltaGas

AltaGas also provided a slide show on their website (see here) that dedicated some of its information flow to highlight the Prince Rupert success and the prospects for the future for the Alberta based energy company.

Earlier this year, representatives from Lax Kw'alaams, Metlakatla and AltaGas travelled to Japan, to christen the newest of vessels to transport LPG between Canada and Asia, with the launch of the vessel Maple Gas the highlight of the exchange between First Nations leaders, company officials and those from Japanese government and industry.

Japanese business and government officials hosted a delegation from
AltaGas, as well as Lax Kw'alaams and Metlakatla earlier this year.
