Last Call this weekend for North Pacific Cannery for 2019 season
As the final days of the 130th anniversary of the North Pacific Cannery begin to flip on the calendar, the National Historic Site in Port Edward is set to host a season ending Gourmet Barbecue Luncheon, with locally caught salmon on the menu and one final tour of the facility on the agenda.
Less than 35 tickets remain on sale for the “Last Catch of the Season” culinary event, which will include generous portions of sockeye salmon infused with an Asian-inspired marinade, organic rice and pasta, and a French apple tarte as the dessert course.
Ann Leach, General Manager of North Pacific Cannery National Historic Site issued the invite to the
community
“We are delighted to invite guests to celebrate this year’s cannery season with a delicious meal while perched above the banks of the Skeena River. Whether you’ve savoured our summer hospitality or it’s your first visit, indulging in authentic West Coast fare alongside the picturesque Inverness Channel will be both delicious and invigorating.”
The luncheon service for ticket-holders begins at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 29th. For a ticket price of $35 (plus applicable fees and taxes), guests will also enjoy free parking and a chance to browse a diverse selection of Northwest BC gifts and art in the North Pacific visitor shop.
As part of the wrap to the North Pacific season, A unique tour of the 130-year-old site will follow the meal, led by North Pacific management staff.
It will feature one-of-a-kind insights into the cannery’s history, personnel and impact on the North Coast over the many decades of its place among the foundation of the region.
After lengthy service as one of the key canneries of the then thriving fishing industry, the site was reborn in 1985 and identified as a National Historic Site.
Since mid 1980's North Pacific has provided for one of the largest tourism draws for the North Coast and continues to evolve with remediation work taking place yearly to add to the exhibits that are available for public view.
