Councillor Randhawa seeks guidance on coronavirus risk from visiting Mariners

The coronavirus was on the mind of Councillor Gurvinder Rahdhawa Monday

City Council will perhaps be making some health protocol inquiries of Northern Health some time this week.

That after an inquiry related to coronavirus concerns from City Councillor Gurvinder Randhawa, who introduced the topic at Monday's Council session.

In the waning moments of the Monday meeting, the Councillor observed as to some concerns he had received from the public wondering of the risks involved locally from the coronavirus which was first reported in China in January.

At the heart of the concerns for Prince Rupert residents is apparently the status of health checks for mariners that arrive in Port on the range of vessels calling on the Port of Prince Rupert.

In his commentary, the Councillor asked if the City has any plans to contact the Port or Northern
Health on the issue.

"People are a little bit concerned about this, so does the City, Port or Northern Health has any policy to do any health check ups on crew members entering into our port"

Mayor Brain observed that they would follow up on the topic with Northern Health officials.

Last week on the blog we outlined how the Port of Prince Rupert had noted that when it comes to any health or travel protocols, the Port would be advised by Canadian officials as to whether any restrictions would be required of the transportation sector.
