Downtown remediation underway for Gitga'at building on Third

Work is now underway towards renovation of a building
owned by the Gitga'at Development Corporation

The boards and scaffolding are up along the Six Hundred Block of Third Avenue West as the Gitga'at First Nation gets to work on there remediation plans for their community gathering space in the downtown  core area.

The work gets underway shortly after the province of British Columbia provided $456,000 funding for the project, which will see the Gitga’at Development Corporation upgrade the two-storey building to improve energy efficiency and accessibility, as well as to remove and replace the front awning to address public safety concerns. 

The funding was delivered through the Community Economic Resilience stream of the Community Economic Recovery Infrastructure Program (CERIP).

As we noted at the time of the funding award in March, the Gitga'at will also be making use of the new City of Prince Rupert's new Tax Incentive program which was introduced in January of this year.
