Lax Kw'alaams Band Members to go to referendum on land for housing plans

The Lax Kw'alaams Community Hall on Third West in
Prince Rupert will be one of two venues for information
sessions on an upcoming land referendum 
for members of the Lax Kw'alaams Band

Members of the Lax Kw'alaams Band will be going to referendum at the end of January, with the Band Council the call to vote coming in relation towards a plan to designate certain lands in the Reserve to the Crown for housing plans for the Indigenous community north of Prince Rupert.

The designation of the lands, if approved, would be for a term of 70 years and would then be leased by the Government of Canada for affordable housing for Lax Kw'alaams members and their families.

Few details on the plans are available as of yet, with two Information sessions set for Lax Kw'alaams members in mid January. 

The first a Zoom Conference session at the Elders Lodge on Church Street in Lax Kw'alaams, the second Zoom Video Conference to be held on the 18th at the Lax Kw'alaams Community Hall at 824 Third Avenue West.
