Early morning fire in Prince Rupert claims one life at Seventh Ave East residence

The Prince Rupert Fire/Rescue Department has relayed the sad news of the death of an occupant of a home following a residential fire on Seventh East.

In an information release from the PRFD this afternoon, Deputy Fire Chief Chad Cooper outlined the nature of the fire call received at 2:55 this morning in the 600 block of the East side residence.

Upon arrival,  attending fire fighters found heavy fire coming from fifty percent of the structure.

One occupant had evacuated the structure as the fire broke out, however firefighters were unable to immediately extricate a second occupant who was trapped inside the home.

Once fire fighters were able to remove that occupant, they were pronounced deceased on the scene by attending BC Emergency Health service Personnel.

The PRFD advises that next of kind has now been notified, offering their condolences to the family.


Prince Rupert Firefighters responded to an early morning fire 
in the 600 Block of Seventh Avenue East

The fire call included the response of ten firefighters staffing one engine, one ladder unit and the Command vehicle on the scenes. One firefighter suffered minor injuries on the call.

The fire was extinguished and deemed out within forty minutes off arrival.
