The River Forecast Centre has issued its March update for the rivers of the province and for North Coast residents who keep a watchful eye on their riverbanks heading to spring, this may be a year with little to be concerned about.
The current indicators suggest that a normal seasonal flood risk is expected for the majority of the province, including the Northwest.
Among the important parts for the Northwest of their review of the forecast for March are:
Drier than normal conditions were observed in the southern portion of the province.
Snow basin indices are slightly below normal (-90%) in the Nechako, Middle Fraser, Similkameen and Skeena-Nass basins.
Slightly lower than normal seasonal runoff is expected in the Nechako, Middle Fraser (Chilcotin), Nicola, and Skeena-Nass basins. Current seasonal forecasts for select watersheds are given in Table 3.
