MLA's Week: May 14 to 17, 2018
With a long weekend beckoning, as well as another one week break from the rigours of the Legislature, it was a light week of engagement for the representatives of the Northwest in Victoria.
Emergency Planning continued to be the focus for North Coast MLA Jennifer Rice, who had two opportunities this week to raise the topic during legislature discussion.
Skeena MLA Ellis Ross continued to put his focus towards economic issues in the Northwest, with one contribution in Legislature session and another as part of a review of estimates for the Finance Ministry.

On the week, Ms Rice was listed three times in the accounts of the sessions of the Legislature from May 14 to 17 .
As it has for the last few weeks, Ms. Rice's commentary once again focused on themes of Emergency Preparedness, that as the province continues to see rising flood waters and prepares for the wildfire season ahead.
Monday, Ms. Rice provided an overview on her concerns as to how Climate Change is having an impact on the province and the events of recent years that have led to emergency response.

In the afternoon of Monday, Ms. Rice introduced her wife Andrea, and paid tribute to her in the House.
Thursday, the Parliamentary Secretary for Emergency Preparedness provided for an update on the flood situation and the response to it by the province.

On Friday, the province announced funding for a supportive housing development for Queen Charlotte on Haida Gwaii, with Ms. Rice sharing the news with residents of the riding.

The North Coast MLA is also a permanent member of the Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs, serving as the convener of that forum.
