City issues call for consultants for Child Day Care Study

The City of Prince Rupert is moving forward with its study on the state of Daycare in the community as it looks to develop a Community Child Care Space Action Plan based on the findings of a local needs assessment.

As we outlined last month, the City has received a 25,000 dollar grant from the province to put towards the study, a funding opportunity that they first explored back in December, the funding program is administered through the Union of British Columbia Municipalities.

Towards exploring the issue further, the City has placed a Request for Proposals to the BC Bid website seeking qualified proponents to deliver a report towards the development of that Action Plan.

In their documentation,  the City has outlined some of the focus they wish to put into the study.

The Scope of the project will consist of three element, comprising collection of information related to child care needs in Prince Rupert.

Create an inventory of existing child care spaces 

Identify space creation targets over the next ten years

Identify actions that can be taken to meet those space creation targets.

The timeline for the project will see the initial interviews take place through until July of this year, with the submission of a Draft Report for City staff to review to be provided by January 15th of 2020.

The full report will be presented to City Council sometime in February of next year.

The deadline for those interested in taking on the project to submit their proposals is April 30th at 2 PM.
