Some promising news for the housing crunch in Prince Rupert made for just one of a number of popular themes this week for readers of our blog.
With our notes on some information out of Lax Kw'alaams related to their plans for a 60 unit apartment complex in Prince Rupert capturing a large audience.
Another significant fire in the community took place this past week, with the Love Marine Electric Building in the Yellowhead Centre destroyed by a massive blaze early Monday morning.
COVID issues dominated much of the week as well, as the province continued to show some alarming numbers in a number of communities primarily in the Greater Vancouver area. However so far, the Prince Rupert area has fared quite well as we discovered through the latest release of data from the BC CDC, which indicates that Smithers is the region's Hot Spot for COVID.
COVID awareness will be the theme of a Virtual Town Hall on November 19th and a large audience explored out notes on how to get involved in that forum co hosted by the School District and Northern Health.
And how the North Coast commemorated Remembrance Day made for another item which attracted a strong readership this week.
The top item of the week however, focused on housing and some plans from Lax Kw'alaams for a property in Prince Rupert.
Lax Kw'alaams announces site for 60 unit apartment development in Prince Rupert -- Plans for some much promised housing for Lax Kw'alaams members living in Prince Rupert moved forward this week, with a site selection announcement from the Band Council, noting property at Edwards and 11th Avenue East in Prince Rupert as their location for project. Standing in Silent Tribute ... Cenotaph visited by North Coast residents through the afternoon -- While they may have been asked to forgo the traditional 11 AM observance of Remembrance Day this year owing to COVID, through the afternoon a number of Prince Rupert residents paid their own tributes to the nations fallen. School District and Northern Health set a date for Virtual Town hall on COVID-19 -- This past week saw the Prince Rupert School District and Northern Health join forces to make plans for a community Virtual Open House set to take place on Thursday, November 19th from 5 to 6 PM. As part of their preparation, those interested can submit their questions for the forum by submitting them by email before November 17th. (posted November 10, 2020)
