Remember them, but for 2020 do so from a safe social distance

Social distancing in times of COVID will make for a
scaled down version of Remembrance Day with attendance
limited to only 50 participants

As Prince Rupert prepares for Remembrance Day, the 2020 version will be very, very different with a limited amount of participants allowed this year for the Court House service at the Cenotaph, much of our remembrance will be online or later in the day perhaps for a brief moment of our own to reflect on the sacrifice of so many.

As we noted in late October, the Prince Rupert Legion had outlined this years new normal through a letter distributed around town, the 2020 protocol for the day  was reinforced by the City of Prince Rupert today.

As the city reviews it,  the ceremonies for the eleventh hour, of the eleventh day, of the eleventh month will be for those who directly have a place as part of what will be a shortened Remembrance Day program this year.

The City's reminder and a suggestion towards how the community can lend a hand to the Legion's 2020 campaign can be found from the City of Prince Rupert Facebook page.

School District 52 has alerted the community to an online option for tomorrow's Remembrance Day activities, with a link to a Zoom stream cast of the Prince Rupert ceremony.

The online option has been organized by Derry Bott, to access the streamcast, you will need to first ensure that you have the Zoom platform downloaded to your computer or portable device.

You can join the Zoom event from the link provided here.

As well, beyond the online commemoration of the day, Prince Rupert and area residents can always stop by the Court House later in the day to pay their respects to the fallen; following along of course with our ongoing measures of social distancing and other required procedures as may be the case during your time at the Cenotaph.

We will offer up our annual salute to the day of remembrance tomorrow, and the national ceremony will be televised across Canada early Wednesday morning, with the National Capital ceremony to take place at 8 AM British Columbia time.
