Coast Guard efforts between Haida Gwaii and Vancouver Island hailed in short video from October

Challenging weather and a disabled sailboat greeted the
CCGS Gordon Reid last month in a response for help
over the Thanksgiving Day Weekend

The Canadian Coast Guard Ship Gordon Reid, a vessel which is a familiar sight for Prince Rupert harbour watchers was on station last month to assist a disabled 50 foot sailboat in waters off Port Hardy, bringing the stricken vessel into port just hours before a major storm crossed through the region.

In a social media post, the Canadian Coast outlined the challenges facing the Gordon Reid and her crew as they headed to the report of a vessel in need of assistance over the Thanksgiving Long weekend.

Bravo Zulu to the Captain and crew of  the CCGS Gordon Reid who raced against a major incoming storm to rescue two people on their disabled sailboat over the Thanksgiving long weekend.

For 30 hours and 185 nautical miles the Gordon Reid towed the 50ft sailboat through 4-5 metre seas to safe harbour in Port Hardy, arriving just hours before the storm broke over Vancouver Island.
