After a start to January mired by building issues, the Prince Rupert Library reopened to the public last Friday, but as the doors were unlocked, there were a few changes in place at the Sixth Avenue facility to greet patrons as they came back into the House of Reading on the North Coast.
COVID protocols require the Library to return to their COVID Safety Plan which make for some temporary policies to be put in place.
Included on the list, visits that do not last more than 45 minutes, Social Distancing of 2 metres, continued mask wearing as mandate and visitors must wash or sanitize their hands upon entering the library.
As well, only 20 people plus staff can be in the library at any given time.
Inside the facility, after their recent building troubles, a portion of the library is closed to the public, with the books from that are having been relocated for the moment to shelving carts.
The Full list of measures can be reviewed here.
The Library is also sharing their memories of Lisa Latimer through both their website and Social Media Feed, celebrating the life of their colleague of sixteen years who passed away earlier this month after a battle with cancer, the Library paying tribute to "the Queen of the Positive Message".
In their tribute notes, the Library noted of her passion to share with both staff and patrons.
A strong and proud member of the Nisga’a Nation, she mentored library staff in understanding her culture, and spearheaded the library’s endeavours towards Reconciliation and support of Indigenous peoples.
The remembrance from the Library can be reviewed here.
The Gitmaxmak'ay Nisga'a Society shared information on the arrangements for Ms. Latimer.
Further notes from the Library can be found from their website and Social media stream.
Items of note on community themes can be found from our archive page.
