The fault line along the Vancouver Island coastline has rumbled this morning with a 5.3 magnitude earthquake (later downgraded to 5.0) recorded offshore, 184 kilometres northwest of the top of Vancouver Island.
The quake which had a depth of 10 kilometres was recorded at 2:23 PM on Saturday afternoon.
No Tsunami Alert was generated by the event.
The rumbling in the area between Haida Gwaii and the Northern tip of Vancouver Island was the first significant event following a similar sized event earlier this year.
The area in question is a seismically active area and has seen a number of similar sized events in the last year.
