People for Public Infrastructure, a recently formed community group that has tasked itself to watch over the city's water and sewer infrastructure plans hosted their first meeting on Sunday.
The session one which brought eight residents of the community together and formalized their plan of approach towards their concerns over any potential privatization of civic infrastructure.
The genesis of their movement came earlier this fall with the City putting out a call for Expressions of Interest in mid October, with the City seeking a business partnership when it comes to the development of a Water Treatment plant for the community.
The plan to seek out bids did not make for any public discussion for the outgoing council which hosted their last session in late October, the new council, elected on October 15th assumes its duties with tonights council session.
From their first gathering the group has outlined some of their vision for the work ahead as well as what they have planned towards their next steps.

The group has also created a website to keep the public up to date on their work and any other notes related to the city's plans and or their responses.

It's good to see this grassroots initiative and that the group is very clear about their aims.
ReplyDeleteThat the previous mayor and council tabled their idea of making water/sewer a for-profit opportunity for parties unknown, without public discussion, like it was a minor planning issue worthy of little comment, was quite astonishing.
