An announcement last week from an Australian energy provider Fortescue to develop a Green Hydrogen plan in Prince George, could mean additional shipments for Prince Rupert port facilities.
The Australian industrial giant introduced itself to Prince George on September 13th outlining its plans for Hydrogen and Ammonia plant for the Central Interior city, making for the latest investor to pick the northern community for the development of hydrogen resources.
The company has submitted an Initial Project Description and Early Engagement plan with the province's Environmental Assessment Office, though it has yet to be listed in their online index as of yet.
The facility would be located in the City's Willow Cale Industrial Park and once in operation would produce close to 140,000 tonnes of hydrogen and 700,000 tonnes of ammonia per year. It is estimated that it will provide for 100 job in Prince George should it move forward towards operations.
A sense of what they may have planned can be found from the Fortescue website, which outlines four of their current operations towards Green Hydrogen and Ammonia production.
At the Prince George information session, the growth of the Hydrogen sector was expanded on, with the Port of Prince Rupert set to become a key element of that growth.
That through the shipment of the resource by rail to facilities in Prince Rupert for global export. An indication that the volume of traffic transiting from Prince George to Prince Rupert's port facilities is set to rise in the years ahead.
Residents of the Northwest likely will learn more about that element once the Hydrogen Hub in Prince George is further along in its development.
