The Enbridge Northern Gateway Project Joint Review Panel is slowly but surely making its way to the North Coast, with February now cleared on the calendar for the Prince Rupert Sessions.
The Joint Review Panel has scheduled sessions on the North Coast for weeks starting February 3rd, February 17, February 24, March 10, March 17, March 31, April 7, April 21, April 28, and the week starting May 12.
The panel was originally expected to hold sessions in Prince Rupert in November and December, however, owing to the interest and volume of participants who wished to express their opinion on the controversial project, the panel extended their stay in Prince George.
The Joint Review Panel has held lengthy sessions through October and now into November in Prince George, sessions that have focused much attention on the environmental impact that forum participants believe the project will deliver in the province.
One item that may add even more interest to the Prince Rupert sessions will be the possibility that the Northern Gateway Terminal may in the end have to be shifted from Kitimat to Prince Rupert. A little sidebar of the discussion that got injected into the debate as part of an interview in the Globe and Mail earlier this week.
While Enbridge at the moment suggests it remains committed to the Kitimat destination, even the rumour of a potential shift in terminal locations could very well require the Joint Review Panel to think about adding even more sessions when it makes its trek into Prince Rupert.
The Prince Rupert consultation period will at this time at least, be the final of the public sessions on the project, the timetable for the Joint Review Panel has the written and oral arguments completed by June 29th 2013.
Panel deliberations are set to begin in July of 2013 with the Panel planning to release its report on December 29th.
The Northern View had this item on the scheduling change posted to its website on Thursday.
