School District 52 outlines plans for Tuesday's teachers strike

With a rotating strike schedule putting Prince Rupert on walkout list for Tuesday May 27th, School District 52 had provided some guidance for parents, as to the path ahead as the labour dispute between the BCTF and the province heats up.

In a letter to parents posted to their website on May 21st, Sandra Jones, the Superintendent of Schools for SD52 provided an update on the situation and an advisory to the community.

Explaining that with the rotating strike of Tuesday teachers will not be in class, with picket lines expected at local schools.

As a result of the job action, the School District will not be able to provide students with instruction or supervision, with that in mind parents and guardians are asked to keep their children at home on May 28th.

As well as the school closures in effect that day, School bus service and ferry transportation will also be cancelled that day.

A return to work is expected for Wednesday when classes and transportation services will resume.

However, Ms. Jones does outline how the labour disruptions may continue on past the Tuesday strike day locally, providing some background on how the School District plans to approach information delivery in the event of further disruptions to the school environment.

She outlined that in the event of further job action,  parents will be contacted by the Synvervoice system, adding that parents make use of the School District website, or local media sources for further updates.
