With school out for the week and youngsters taking to the outdoors to enjoy the nice weather, the RCMP have re-issued their warning to be on the watch for wolves in the region.
In their latest advisory on the topic, the RCMP notes that they continue to work with Conservation Officers to find solutions to solve the wolf issue in the community.
Since January 1st, the RCMP has responded to 19 wolf related calls, the majority being wolf sightings with a few related to wolves acting in an aggressive manner.
"Although wolves may seem intimidating in most circumstances they are more afraid of you, however there are some simple precautions that community members can take to deter wolves from urban areas. While we understand that there is a concern, we ask that community members DO NOT take matters into their own hands, and to call police or conservation in the event of a wolf sighing." -- Constable Matt Ericson of the Prince Rupert RCMP on recent wolf sightings
As part of their reminder of the wolf issue in the community, the RCMP has provided a list of actions that residents can take, first in the cause of Wolf Deterrence and then in the unlikely event that you find yourself in an encounter with a wolf.
You can review their advice to the public here.
