The Prince Rupert branch of the Royal Canadian Legion has provided an update on the state of affairs for the 2020 commemoration of Remembrance Day
In a letter accompanying their poppy displays in local retail stores, the Legion makes note of the challenges that COVID has delivered to the organization and as to how we will observe the annual commemoration this year.
Among them pre placement of wreaths prior to the 11 AM ceremony, a limit in participation of no more than 50 people, along with physical distancing of 6 feet (2 metres).
All those participating in the Remembrance Day event will be required to wear a protective mask.
Those wishing more information on the ceremony, or to ensure that their wreaths are in place for the event can contact the Legion at 250-622-2017.
The poppy campaign began last week, with trays of poppies for sale arriving at a number of local stores and services.
Residents of Prince Rupert, Haida Gwaii and the rest of the northwest may want to make an extra effort to lend a hand this year to the poppy campaign.
Organizers of the local effort have expressed some concern that the current concerns over COVID could make for reduced contributions this year, which will impact on services delivered to veterans.
