New Coast Guard lifeboat on the way for Hartley Bay

Part of an expanded delivery of Canadian Coast Guard Search and Rescue service for the North Coast is on its way to Hartley Bay; with the Coast Guard sending two new lifeboat vessels o their journey to duty on the West Coast last week.

The two vessels CCGS Cadboro Bay and CCGS Florencia Bay are currently strapped aboard the marine transport ship Atlantic Condor owned by Atlantic Towing, which departed from Dartmouth Nova Scotia last week, destined for a Victoria arrival in mid March.

From there the vessels will be assigned to their new stations at Hartley Bay and Tahsis.

The vessels are 19 metres long and weigh 75 gross tonnes and are part of a 20 vessel delivery plan as part of the national shipbuilding strategy. The new SAR resource has a cruising speed of 14.5 knots and can accelerate to a top speed of 25 knots. They will have a range of 100 nautical miles.

The Hartley Bay Lifeboat will be similar to the McIntyre Bay which operates on the North Coast.

The vessel for Hartley Bay is part of move to create a Search and Rescue station in the Gitga'at community, that expansion of marine rescue options was announced in June of 2019.
