It didn't take long for the Prince Rupert Rampage to get back on the same page when the hit the ice Saturday night, with the Rhinos a dedicated group looking to get into the win column for the first time in these early days of the 2021-22 CIHL season.
The Rampage were looking to get their first W following last weeks home opener loss to the Kitimat Ice Demons, and the Hazelton Wolverines were not going to get in the way, however the the visiting squad did make things tough for Prince Rupert through two periods of play..
The first twenty minutes provided for a sample of the intensity of the night ahead, with the Rampage taking an early lead from a Hunter Johnson goal with an assist to Jared Meers, only to see the Wolverines bite back less than a minute later to even the game up.
The second period was much of the same with the Rampage once again taking the lead back early in the middle frame on a power play marker for Jacob Santurbano, with Judd Repole and Kolton Chasse picking up the helpers.
Ten minutes later however, Hazelton was converting their own scoring opportunity to send the teams to intermission once again tied, this time at 2-2.
The Rampage regrouped with the break and came out ready to take charge for the third making for a fast paced attack scoring two goals in three and a half minutes to put some space on the scoreboard between themselves and the Wolverines.
The first coming at 1:33 with an unassisted power play goal for Kory Movold.
Two minutes later, Jacob Santurbano was back on the score sheet, still on the power play he converted a passing play from Kolton Chasse and Nolan Stava for the 4-2 lead.
Austin Weir would seal the deal on the night in the 12 minute mark, his marker putting the Rampage ahead 5-2 with assists going to Justin Brand and Kolton Chasse who picked up his third assist of the night on the scoring play.
The Wolverines having paid a price for some rough play in the third and giving up power play opportunities to the Rampage would find no more net on the night.
On the night, Hazelton sat out twelve minutes of play on 6 infractions, the Rampage served 6 minutes of penalty time on 3 infractions.
The full scoresheet for the night can be reviewed here.
Game two was another sell out, with the limited attended provisions of COVID making for 525 fans in the stands for the Saturday night contest.
Up next for the Rampage is another game in the early season homestead, with the newest entry to the CIHL, the Nechako North Stars in town Saturday night for their first trip to the North Coast.
Both teams sport somewhat similar trends in scoring and defending, but the night may be physical one when the North Stars come to town, with two games under their belt, the newcomers are making a mark in the penalties book, with 60 Penalty minutes served in just their first two appearances
Puck drops at 7PM at the Jim on Saturday. It will be the last home game until early December for the home side.
