The Prince Rupert Police has handed out some Kudos to local Search And Rescue teams from both Prince Rupert and Terrace for their assists last week on two calls for assistance.
The first was an October 10th call related to a hiker in distress near Lachmach Lake located north of Highway 16 between Prince Rupert and Terrace.

The call for assistance sadly turned into a recovery effort as the hiker had passed away, that despite the efforts of those in the hiking group.
RCMP contacted the two Search and Rescue groups owing to the difficult path and terrain of area, their combined work enabled the group to bring deceased hiker back to Prince Rupert.
The Second call for help from local SAR came on October 12th, that from a report of a missing man, the last known location relayed to the RCMP was a possible hike along the Butte Rapids Hiking Trail.

Despite a rapid response by RCMP Members and extensive patrols along the Highway and foot patrol of the trail itself the man was not located immediately.
Search And Rescue team were brought in for the search and at approximately 7PM the hiker in question was located near Oliver Lake where his well being was assessed, with the hiker then transported to hospital for treatment and subsequent release.
