One game into the 2014-15 CIHL season and the weekend will bring a showdown between undefeated teams, as the Prince Rupert Rampage make the trek down Highway 16 to take on the Terrace River Kings.
The Rampage are coming off a thrilling 5-4 shoot out victory over the Kitimat Ice Demons, two points that placed the Prince Rupert into second place after one week of CIHL play.
The River Kings so far appear to be the offensive power house for the league, with 14 goals for and but five against in their two games of week one, last Friday they defeated the Kitimat Ice Demons by a 5-1 score, while Saturday night saw the Terrace squad dispatch the Smithers Steeheads by a five goal margin with a 9-4 victory.
For the Rampage tightening up the defensive play will obviously be key, especially against as prolific a scoring squad as Terrace.
Last Saturday night, second period woes almost wrote a different script for the Prince Rupert home opener, as the Rampage allowed the Ice Demons to rattle off three second period goals, aided by some penalty trouble.
It was thanks to a third period comeback and then the momentum that came from it that pushed the Rampage into the win column for the new season, the same kind of lapses against Terrace probably won't provide quite the same result as last week.
Keeping a focus on their defensive play and keeping out of the penalty box, will go a long way towards the quest for a second win in these early days of the season.
Game time in Terrace is 8 PM Saturday night for those looking to elbow into a little space at the Terrace Ice Arena to root on the Rampage.
