RCMP repeats Tainted Heroin warning in light of recent death

The Prince Rupert RCMP have provided an update on a tragic event in the city related to their notice of last week, alerting the community about a batch of tainted heroin finding its way onto the streets of the City.

Earlier today, the RCMP issued a media advisory, advising as to the passing of  a person who had reportedly overdosed from a lethal mixture of the drug heroin, it's suspected that the use of Fentanyl in the mixture has contributed to a number of overdoses in the community over recent days.

The advisory of today however, is the first instance of a fatality associated with the warning of last week.

“It is with sadness that we have to advise the community of Prince Rupert about this tragic event, and our sincere condolences go out to the family and friends that have been affected. At this time we are not releasing the name of the deceased, out of respect for the family.” ... “Given the circumstances surrounding this death and the suspected use of Fentanyl laced Heroin, we feel it is imperative to issue this public warning to help prevent any further tragedies. We are also making an appeal to the community for anyone who may have information regarding the tainted drugs.” -- Constable Matt Ericson of the Prince Rupert RCMP with an update on a recent string of heroin overdoses

In addition to providing notice of the deadly mixture, the RCMP has also outlined the need for assistance from the community to try and seek the arrest of those responsible for putting the drug onto the streets.
