Heavy Rainfall Warning issued for North Coast - Inland areas

A strong Pacific Front will arrive on the North Coast in the overnight period
bringing heavy rain and wind to many communities of the Northwest

A strong Pacific front is about to make its introduction to the North Coast with strong winds and heavy rain expected for many communities across the Northwest.

The storm is anticipated to track over the Alaska Panhandle this evening and as it does significant rainfall amounts will be seen in the region.

Saturday afternoon Environment Canada issued a Rainfall Warning for inland areas of the North Coast with Kitimat expected to see up to 60 mm of precipitation before the system eases late Sunday morning.

Prince Rupert has not as of yet been included in the Heavy Rainfall warning, but the night will be a wet and windy one, with up to 50 mm of rain expected along with winds from the South at 40 km/h gusting to 70 km/h in exposed areas.

The rain will continue through the overnight period easing off late Sunday morning, as the system comes ashore a temperature shift will take place with the overnight low expected to be at 10 degrees Celsius.

Highway travel earlier in the day in the Prince George area was reported as treacherous, with the highway closed for a period between Vanderhoof and Prince George owing to a traffic incident.
