Rampage find strong challenges during Cariboo road trip

They may not have collected any wins on their two game trek into the BC interior, but the weekend of travel has given the Prince Rupert Rampage an idea where the work is required

The Rhinos started the weekend off in Williams Lake, putting on a highly entertaining show as they battled hard with the home town Stampeders, taking the always tough Cariboo squad into OT, before the Stamps delivered the winning marker to grab the win.

Kory Movold picked up the Rampage maker midway through the first period, an unassisted goal that put Prince Rupert into the lead for twenty minutes, with the Stampeders gaining the equalizer at the 10 minute point of period number two.

The two teams exchanged chances but found no success in the third, setting the scene for an overtime which finally delivered the winning marker for the Stamps at the three minute mark.

Prince Rupert fired 31 shots at Williams Lake's Justin Foote, while David Wood faced 42 shots over the course of the Saturday night showcase.

A look at the box score from Saturday is available here.

The Rampage left Williams Lake quite pumped about their efforts, hailing the work of Wood in the nets through a Facebook post, prior to heading to Quensel and their match up with Kangaroos.

The travel requirements for the eastern road trip perhaps caught up with the Rampage on Sunday, as the Noon hour start seems to have benefited the home town Kangaroos, who stormed through the third period to put away a Rampage push back over the first two periods.

Prince Rupert didn't get on the board in Quesnel until the second period, with Jean Luc Fournier picking up the first goal on the afternoon just after the two minute mark, with assists going to Tyler Matalone and Marcus Atchison.

The Rhinos tied things up five minutes later when Cole Morris scored, with Logan Morris getting providing the helping assist.

That however was all the scoring that the Rampage could summon as the Kangaroos clamped down defensively and turned on their offence, scoring five more times before the day was over.

Over the sixty minutes, Prince Rupert faced 51 shots on net, while finding frustration at the Quesnel end as Reign Turley turned aside all but two of the 54 shots directed his way.

The wrap up to the road trip was a much more physical affair for the Rampage who found themselves serving 14 minutes on seven penalties, while the Kangaroos were assessed 16 minutes of time in the box on eight infractions.

The full box score for the Sunday game can be found here.

Other scores from weekend play saw Williams Lake top Kitimat 8-2 on Sunday, Saturday night the Ice Demons were on the wrong end of a 7-1 decision in Quesnel. The Terrace River Kings had the bye this weekend.

The standings after the first three weeks of CIHL play find the Quesnel squad sitting atop the listings, with the three Northwest squads hoping to make up some ground over the next few weeks.

The Rampage will be back on the bus this weekend, as they head to Kitimat for a Saturday night match up, with the Rhinos looking to avenge their opening night Overtime to the Ice Demons.

The next home game for Prince Rupert will be on October 28th when the Terrace River Kings come to town.
