| Port Edward's North Pacific Cannery Historical site is looking to access grant funding for some renovation work this year |
The North Pacific Cannery Historical Site may seem some more infrastructure work this year, as the Society that oversees its operations outlines its grant funding requests for Regional District.
The funding requests are outlined In a letter to the Regional District Board included as part of the agenda for this weekend's Board meetings in Prince Rupert and offer up a glimpse to the job jar plans for the Port Edward site.
Among some of the projects that they hope to tackle for 2019, restoration of the Bunkhouse, replacement of the roof of the Boiler Plant and adjacent Reduction Plant Buildings.
The cost of the Bunkhouse project is expected to come in at 660,000 dollars, which the Port Edward Historical Society plans to cover through a number of grant opportunities and fundraising.
Towards that funding, an application has been submitted to Parks Canada to a maximum of $100,000, they currently have an application in with the Canada Infrastructure Program for $429,000 while they have plans in motion to seek out further grant funding from other grant sources.
The letter which is dated November 30th, 2018 is part of a request of North Coast Regional District for support as part of the grant application to the Community, Culture and Recreation Program.
Regional District officials will review the letter at their Friday meeting in Prince Rupert.
The Port Edward Historical site will open for the 2019 tourist season on May 1st.
