Gitmaxmak'ay Nisga'a Society outlines measures for elders, office operations
Care of elders is the major focus for the Prince Rupert/Port Edward Gitmaxmak'ay Nisga'a Society which today outlined the steps it is taking to provide for basic grocery and other items for their membership.
In a Social media post from CEO and President Blair Mirau, the Society provided some notes towards their response on COVID-19
"As our elders are the most vulnerable during this time, we are developing a supply box delivery. We are planning to provide basic grocery and necessity items from our new store in Port Edward once we take possession next week; plus seeds and growing materials from our garden centre and filtered water from the Nisga'a Hall."
Towards their deliver of services the Gitmaxmak'ay Nisga'a Society is looking to reach every elder by phone, email or Facebook over the next number of days to ensure that their database is accurate.
Towards that effort you can email the Society their name, current address and phone number to info@gitmaxmakay.ca
In addition to their work towards the care of elders, the Society will also be changing their office situation, advising any staff who can work at home to do so for the next three weeks.
You can find out more information on their programs from the Society's website, Twitter Feed and Facebook page.
Further notes on local advisories can be explored here.
