The Thursday update for British Columbians from Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix, took note of another 66 new cases listed in the province today; bringing the British Columbia total to 725 to date, with 14 deaths thus far.
Of the Active cases to date, 359 are in the Vancouver Coastal Region, 241 in the Fraser Health region, 52 with Vancouver Island Health, 62 with Interior Health and 11 recorded in the Northern Health Region.
The Public Health Doctor also outlined the scope of the reported cases to date:
66 individuals are currently hospitalized, 26 of those are in intensive care, and the remaining people who have tested positive for COVID-19 are recovering at home in self-isolation.
One hundred and eighty-six patients with COVID-19 have recovered and no longer have isolation requirements.
Todays briefing also provided for the regular checklist of the current Orders in place that have been put in place by Dr. Doctor, including one new one issued today, related to workers at long term care facilities.
“Provincial health officer orders for public and private health sector employers and long-term care facilities were issued today. These orders ensure employees work at only one facility to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission."
Dr. Henry also made note of the announcement of earlier in the day by Solicitor General Mike Farnworth, which suspended local States of Emergency and folded the response into the Provincial State of Emergency Order, with the Doctor noting that among other elements, it will provide clarity towards who will be deemed an essential worker.
As well the Health Minister spoke to the plans for tomorrow, where they will be presenting the findings of a number of models towards some clarity as to what the province is facing at this point and could be looking towards in the future.
